The largest and longest-running exhibition of contemporary art in Scotland.

The RSA Annual Exhibition is the prestigious highlight of our year-round exhibition programme and represents our commitment to supporting excellence in the visual arts in Scotland. Available to view both entirely online and in the magnificent surroundings of the Playfair-designed galleries at the Royal Scottish Academy, the exhibition is the best opportunity to view and purchase works across the breadth of contemporary art in Scotland.

Now in its 197th year, the RSA Annual Exhibition provides a platform for contemporary painting, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation, alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects. This year’s Convenor is Stuart Mackenzie RSA, assisted by Deputy Convenor Paul Stallan RSA.

This year the exhibition will encompass both the physical and digital, combining the exhibition of artworks on display in the galleries with those shown online, some exclusively designed as such and others as companions to work in the galleries.

The RSA Open Exhibitions of Art and Architecture figure centrally in the RSA Annual Exhibition. These open exhibition elements feature a diverse range of works thoughtfully selected from online submissions by artists and architects at all stages of their careers. Memorial works by Ian Arnott RSA, Barry Gasson RSA, Frank Pottinger RSA and Graeme Todd RSA will also be on display.

The RSA Annual Exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to purchase and collect artworks in a wide range of media and styles. The RSA is a proud partner of the Own Art scheme, allowing you purchase artwork in 10 monthly interest-free instalments.

The RSA is grateful to all our external award givers who support contemporary art and architecture in Scotland.
