BIOGRAPHY

Tom Normand has published widely on aspects of British and Scottish art in the modern period and has lectured, nationally and internationally, on Scottish art, culture and society. His books include The Modern Scot: Modernism and Nationalism in Scottish Art 1928-1955, London: Ashgate Press, 2000, Scottish Photography: a history, Edinburgh: Luath Press, 2007, and, Portfolio: Treasures from the Diploma Collection at the Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh: Luath Press, 2012. Most recently he edited Ages of Wonder: Scotland’s Art 1540 to Now, Edinburgh: Royal Scottish Academy, 2017, a publication that coincided with the largest exhibition of the Academy’s collections ever staged. He was Senior Lecturer in the History of Art at the University of St Andrews, where he lectured from 1982-2018, having previously taught at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee.
