SURVEY is one of a series of projects marking the 20th Anniversary of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop (ESW) and is curated by RSA Programme Director Colin Greenslade. Mindful of the activities and achievements of the past two decades, the exhibition focuses on the new era ahead of the Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop. Shown in the Lower Galleries of the RSA, 18 ESW Members were selected for their diverse methods and working practice – artists reaching out from their Edinburgh base to create exciting new works with and for galleries across Scotland and beyond, crossing boundaries and challenging our perception of what ‘sculpture’ means to us today.

Artists featured are: Elaine Allison & Patricia Bray, Samantha Clark, Andrea Geile, Lara Greene, Jessica Harrison, Emma Herman-Smith, Chrissie Heughan, Beverley Hood, Scott Laverie, Lyndsay Mann, Ettie Spencer, Sam Stead, Natalie Taylor, Virus and Michael Visocchi

Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop stands at a pivotal point in its history. With an eye to the future, excitement is growing over plans for a redeveloped site with new studios and facilities. This new development will be the first purpose-built open-access sculpture facility in the UK and will assist Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop with its long-term plans for development of an expanded artistic programme, increased educational and outreach activities, and more opportunities for public interaction with artists and work. It will also enable an increase in opportunities for members and a national and international residency programme for visiting artists, placing Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop even more firmly on the Scottish and international map. With this in mind, the exhibition attempts to bring together just a small selection of these artists and projects, to showcase what riches we have in our artist community.
