“Every spirit builds itself a house, and beyond its house a world, and beyond its world a heaven”
Ralph Waldo Emerson, Nature
The RSA Annual Exhibition is a focal point of the RSA programme and showcases work from RSA Academicians the length and breadth of Scotland. Now in it’s 190th year, it continues to provide a platform for contemporary paintings, sculpture, film, printmaking, photography and installation alongside work by some of the country’s leading architects.
This years curated aspect will explore ideas and work about what HOME might mean, from twelve distinguished architect Academicians and their guests, including prominent Scottish and international architects. Everyone should have a home, and everyone should have some ideas about how they ideally would like to live. HOME has been curated by the exhibition convenor, Robin Webster RSA, and will present innovative houses which have been completed and working ideas for, as yet, unrealised projects. In addition to showing examples of beautiful houses and imaginative ideas that may whet the ambition of those aspiring to something better, the exhibition will also consider how homes may be provided for those who can afford very little, and what these might be like. HOME is part of the Scottish Government’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design.
Deputy Convenor Adrian Wiszniewski RSA has also invited a number of artists and designers whose work also relates to the theme of HOME. Invited artists: Alison Harper, Bruce McLean, Dovecot Studios highlighting working tapestry studies for Victoria Crowe RSA, Dorian Wiszniewski’s contemporary design and the HABITAT Suite from the Glasgow Print Studio.
