These residencies are currently under development and, after consultation with the Scottish Arts Council and residency providers across Scotland, we intend to further develop opportunities for artists through these awards. The RSA aims to achieve this by collaborating with studios and residency centres towards a more flexible approach to residencies and the creation of new work. This would enable the RSA to develop relationships with these ‘centres of excellence’ and also assist to fulfill the RSA remit as a national body.

Exhibiting a selection of these artists during the Edinburgh Festival will enable the RSA to:

– Showcase the work of the artists at an important time in the exhibiting calendar
– Promote the development of the Awards
– Herald the new working relationship with the regional ‘centres of excellence’
– Promote the developed relationship with the Scottish Arts Council
– Position the RSA as a major player in the network of support for commissioning new work

This exhibition is part of the Edinburgh Art Festival 2008.
