Excursion to Dundee Contemporary Arts and Zinc House

Excursion to Dundee Contemporary Arts and Zinc House

Tickets £60/Friends£45

Depart The Mound 9am  Return 5.30pm approx.

As usual on Dundee trips our first stop is for coffee and scones at Glendoik Garden Centre.
After which we make our way to DCA where the visit will include a tour and demonstration in their Print Room and a tour of  The Weather Makers by Kelly Richardson. Weaving together myth and metaphor with scientific research and new digital technologies the exhibition features three large-scale video works alongside a new print series.  After lunch at DCA we continue to Zinc House, the home of Mr & Mrs Callison,  who have generously allowed us to visit. Designed by one of our newest Academicians, Graeme Hutton RSA & LJR+H Architects, the house is a modern interpretation of the Scottish agricultural shed. Buildings of this type have a certain inevitability of form, scale, position and material expression. Manipulation of these characteristics forms the overriding conceptual idea for Zinc House which presents as a composition of aggregated internal and external spaces unified by a continuous roof.  The house won a 2016 RIAS Award and was filmed by Channel 4 for ‘Grand Designs House of the Year 2016’.
