Alfons Bytautas in conversation with Leena Nammari

The exhibition Reflections by Alfons Bytautas is available to view online from 9 April – 30 May

Alfons Bytautas RSA is a painter & printmaker. Born in Scotland and now based in Newcastle upon Tyne, he studied at Edinburgh College of Art from 1972-77 before going to Paris to study at Atelier 17, the studio of the esteemed Modernist printmaker Stanley William Hayter.

Bytautas was Master Printmaker at Edinburgh Printmakers’ Workshop for 30 years, where he was instrumental in developing and promoting innovative print techniques, using materials which are safer both for the user and the environment. He was invited to demonstrate these new methods in numerous practical workshops held throughout the UK and in the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain & Japan.

Alfons will be chatting to his fellow artist, friend and former colleague at Edinburgh Printmakers, Leena Nammari. Alfons will talk about his own practice as an artist, his ideas and influences and the various techniques used in his work.  The conversation will also focus on all things to do with prints & printmaking, including his work printing for artists such as Alan Davie and John Bellany.
