2007 is the year that Scotland celebrates Highland culture.
To coincide with these celebrations the RSA present HIGHLAND, a specially curated aaspect within the RSA Annual Exhibition, looking at artist's responses to the Highlands of Scotland. Curated by Arthur Watson RSA (Elect), HIGHLAND aims to highlight works by some of the many artists who use this influence to inform their practice.
HIGHLAND will feature:
Invited artists Lei Cox and Mel Woods, Olwen Shone, The Lonely Piper, Alan Davie HRSA, Frances Walker RSA, Marion Leven RSA (Elect), Calum Colvin RSA and Richard Demarco HRSA as well as presentations from the Window to the West project, The Demarco Digital Archive (including Gunther Uecker and Joseph Beuys) and Highland works from the Collection of the RSA.
A special commission for the show by Alexander and Susan Maris through the RSA Morton Award (a new initiative for lens based artists) . They will show their work 13,08 - a contemporary scene-for-scene re-shoot of Beuys' journey (with Demarco) from Edinburgh to Rannoch Moor - alongside the McEwan original. They will also show works from REFUGIUM - a new body of large format photographs depicting the remaining pockets of ancient Caledonian forest still thriving on the islands of Loch Rannoch.
