2The Friends of the Royal Scottish Academy was established as a charity in 1986 and supports the work of the RSA encouraging engagement with its activities and the work of exhibiting artists. There are now more than 2,500 Friends all over Britain and their enthusiasm and support continue to enhance the life of the Academy. Funds generated by the Friends are vital to the Academy, and are used to support exhibitions, residencies and awards. As a Friend of the RSA you can enjoy knowing that you are supporting excellence and helping one of the longest established visual arts organisations in the country.
Often referred to as a ‘haven’ by those who visit, the Friends’ Room has always provided Friends and their guests with a relaxing space in the heart of the Royal Scottish Academy building to meet with friends and enjoy refreshments. The Friends’ Room hosts its own rolling programme of exhibitions which changes 3 times a year. Current sponsors of the Friends’ Room, Patersons Arran provide a delicious range of shortbread and biscuits for members to enjoy with their hot drinks, and the ever growing collection of art books, exhibition catalogues, magazines and periodicals. The Friends’ Room is open Monday – Friday, 10am – 4.30pm. Entrance to the Room is through the South Door of the RSA building (opposite the National Gallery of Scotland). Please ring the bell and show your membership card.
VOLUNTEERS Our team of volunteers plays a major role in keeping the wheels turning – assisting with newsletter mailings, running events or serving coffee in the Friends’ Room – all making a big difference. If you’d like to get involved we’d be happy to hear from you and discuss any opportunities that might be available.
