This August, we’re celebrating A Journey Shared with a drawing workshop inspired by the still life works of Dame Elizabeth Blackadder RSA and John Houston RSA.
Surrounded by works from the Blackadder Houston Study Collection, we’ll explore a selection of objects that the couple were inspired by, which are now displayed in our Wunderkammer. Wunderkammer translates from the German as ‘Room of Wonder’ but is usually referred to in English as a ‘Cabinet of Curiosities’.
The Wunderkammer is filled with items from Elizabeth’s vast collection of trinkets and souvenirs, plus artist’s materials, and a selection of small works by John. Many of the paintings in The Study Collection feature objects shown in the Wunderkammer.
If you’re already in love with drawing, this is a chance to develop your skills and take inspiration from two hugely influential Scottish artists. Alternatively, Academy Studio is an opportunity to explore a new medium, build your confidence, or even just dedicate some time for you.
All materials will be provided. Suitable for all abilities, aged 14+. The workshop will run from 11am - 4pm, and we will break for lunch from 1pm - 2pm. You are welcome to bring a packed lunch, or there a number of shops and cafes close by.
