Aimee’s Work Experience – Day 1

Posted on 12 June 2017

The first day of my work placement at the Royal Scottish Academy was an exciting experience. I am an S6 at Leith Academy and I am currently sitting Advanced Highers in Art & Design, Art Portfolio and Graphic Communication and a crash Higher in Design & Manufacture. After my last year at high school I aim to go on to study at one of the art schools, Glasgow School of Art being my first choice. I found and chose this placement as I really wanted to see what goes on in an art and design based industry and have so far enjoyed learning a bit about finance, particularly how invoices and expenses work. Today I have been trying not to get lost in the building and have also helped with admin tasks like sending emails and filing. It is a lot of information to take in when being shown the hard work that goes on behind the scenes of exhibitions and I am excited to continue my week’s work placement and further develop my knowledge, skills and confidence.  As someone who particularly enjoys creating art it is interesting to see the other roles which are vital for the gallery and to look at a range of different art based careers.
